Basic Steps to Use the Content Management System (CMS)

  1. Pages without the "Click2EditPageAres" have no editable areas
  2. When you first log in for editing it may take some additional time to initiate the CMS.
  3. Once the CMS is initiated, you may use the page selection header at the top of the page to edit any page.
  4. New sites have ten pages with five CMS areas in each of the sidebar and the main content areas plus a Page Index page.
  5. Use the built in file manager for storing images used on the site. Control buttons are in the top right of the edit title bar.
  6. You may use any navigation button or link to open another page for editing or click the closing "X" in the title bar (upper right) to exit.

There may be one or more 'special purpose' page(s) such as the email form. There is no restriction (other than common sense) to the amount of content within any single area, but watch the widths of images so that they fit without busting the page template.

More pages can be requested and CMS support is available. Contact your Webmaster (WebGuy@KCadby.org).

Resize Before Uploading

The CMS upload file manager will allow you to select images (JPG, GIF or PNG file types) and upload them to your site images directory so that you can select them for inserting them into your web pages.

However! Pics wider than 640 pixels won't fit in the main areas and pics wider than 180 pixels won't fit in the sidebar areas. While the CMS editor will let you set the displayed width and/or height of a pic, it's smarter to resize big pics before uploading because the browsers will download the full sized pic file anyway which will extend the page loading time unnecessarily. Visitors get impatient and go elsewhere.

So, use the resize script provided HERE which will allow you to select pics from your PC, resize them and return them back to your PC. CAUTION: If you wish to preserve your big pics in your PC, be sure to give the resized version a new name.

AND, don't forget to upload your resized image (Step 5 above) before putting it into your page. The CMS will let you set the display width and height of any inserted pic, but the larger image file size will still get sent to the viewers which slows down the page load times for them. It's no big deal because the page will look OK, but the visitors may not want to wait for humongous imgage files to download.
